And one flew the coop!

Writer: Dayna SandersonDayna Sanderson

Tomorrow marks a full week since my daughter ( my youngest) moved into her very first apartment....alone.....by herself...no one else and I am SAD!

Before last weekend she was living at my parents place where she was able to be independent and looked after all in the same postal code. They had a very symbiotic relationship, they could go to Florida for 6 months and she would look after the house, and she got the comfort of Nana and Papa for the time they were home.

Long story shortened, my mom and dad are fully retiring this year and want to downsize there house ( more than well deserved) and my daughter took this opportunity to leap into full blown independence.

This is a good thing....right? She is 20 so I completely knew this was coming, my son has been on his own for 2 years, but I think what I wasn't prepared for was just how emotional this is for me!

I am almost like." how dare you leave a comfy nest, spread your wings, enjoy it and do well?"

Jeebus that hurt my heart! I think this maybe a well shaken cocktail of menopause + I was travelling when she moved + huge life transitions going on for her step father and I = not exactly able to rationally swallow any of this!

It's a funny beast, one hand you want them to succeed and be happy and excited, and the other hand you want them to fail a little so they still need you...( god thats horrible!)

What strikes me odd is that she didn't live with me, but I miss her so much right now. Good thing I have wine and John of course lol.

Seeing your kids growing is amazing, don't get me wrong, but seeing your kids growing is such a powerful pain.

My kids are 20 and 22 now neither have been incarcerated and she isn't hanging off a pole in her unmentionables so I'm gonna call this a win! Of course I want more for them but I know I did well, and so will they!

So for now I'm going to go stretch myself a little, try and relax while I watch them live, being ever ready to spring into mom mode if need be, and likely start buying my wine a case at a time!

Till next time take a minute to smile at whats good, and if you can laugh......even better!
